Collection: Tableware

In Japan, a meal is enjoyed with the eyes as much as with the mouth. Dishes are served in small portions, each in a piece chosen for its shape, colour and material, and the whole table forms a harmonious set. Our tableware section brings together everyday Japanese tableware, made in Japan.

You will find plates, dishes and small bowls for serving sushi, grilled fish or soy sauce; bowls and salad bowls for rice, ramen, miso soup or matcha; mugs and teacups, from small sizes to jumbo mugs; as well as chopsticks and spoons and Japanese knives.

Most of our ceramic and porcelain pieces come from Toki and Tajimi, in Gifu Prefecture, at the heart of the Mino region, or from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, known for its everyday porcelain. Our chopsticks come from Obama, in Fukui Prefecture.

Each material has its own character. Porcelain is fine and smooth. Ceramic has a more organic texture, with glazes that vary slightly from one piece to another: celadon, drips, matte finishes. The decorations draw on classic Japanese motifs such as seigaiha waves, tako karakusa, asanoha stars, plum and cherry blossoms or koi carp. Mixing styles is welcome: it is the very spirit of the Japanese table.

Care instructions are given on each product page. Porcelain is dishwasher and microwave safe. Ceramic is best washed by hand, but can go in the microwave.
