Collection: Plates, Dishes and Small Bowls

In Japan, not everything is served on the same plate. A meal is made up of several small dishes, each in a piece chosen for its shape, colour and size. This way of setting the table gives tableware a real place.

The collection covers the whole meal: small dishes for soy sauce or wasabi, mamezara (Japanese mini plates), flat and deep plates, rectangular plates for sushi or grilled fish, and large sharing platters for the centre of the table. Many are sold in sets of 2 to 8, so you can build a complete set.

Most of our pieces come from Toki and Tajimi, in Gifu Prefecture, home of Mino ware, Japan's largest tableware production region. Others come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, known for its everyday porcelain.

The decorations draw on classic Japanese motifs: tako karakusa, scrolls whose leaves recall the suckers of an octopus (tako); seigaiha waves; asanoha stars, inspired by the hemp leaf; plum and cherry blossoms; koi carp; tokusa stripes, inspired by horsetail. Some pieces focus instead on the glaze, with drips, celadon or a matte texture that shows the natural variations of firing.

Care depends on the material, shown on each product page. Porcelain is dishwasher and microwave safe. For ceramic, we recommend washing by hand, but it can go in the microwave.
