Collection: Kimonos and Yukata

The yukata is the Japanese summer kimono. Lighter than a classic kimono and unlined, it is worn in hot weather, for summer festivals (matsuri), after bathing at ryokan and hot springs, or simply at home. It is closed by crossing the left side over the right, then held in place with a belt tied at the waist.

Our yukata are made of pure cotton in Kyoto. They reach down to the feet, come in sizes S, M and L, and are delivered with their belt, the obi.

The motifs draw on traditional Japanese imagery: koi carp, which swim upstream and symbolise perseverance and success; cranes (tsuru), symbols of longevity and happiness; chrysanthemums (kiku), Japan's imperial flower; nami waves, symbols of strength and movement; or kamon, Japanese family crests repeated across the fabric.

The collection also includes happi, short jackets with straight sleeves that stop at the hip, in cotton and one size. They are traditionally worn during matsuri. Delivered with their belt, they can be worn closed, or open over a t-shirt like a light jacket.

Our cotton yukata and happi are machine washable at 40 °C.
