Collection: Bowls and Salad Bowls

In Japan, everyone has their own bowl. The rice bowl, the chawan, comes with every meal; others hold miso soup, noodles or matcha. Our collection brings together these everyday shapes, chosen for their use as much as for their decoration.

You will find rice bowls of around twelve centimetres, large ramen and donburi bowls for complete meals, matcha bowls with a low, wide shape, as well as salad bowls and serving bowls to place in the middle of the table.

Most of our bowls are made in Japan, in two major ceramic regions. The Mino region, around Toki and Tajimi in Gifu Prefecture, produces a large share of Japanese tableware. Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, is known for its everyday porcelain, often in blue and white.

The decorations draw on traditional patterns: seigaiha waves, asanoha stars, plum or cherry blossoms, tako karakusa. Others rely on the glaze alone, speckled, flowing or matte, with natural variations from one piece to another.

As for care, each product page specifies the material. Porcelain bowls are dishwasher and microwave safe. For ceramic bowls, hand washing is recommended, and the microwave can still be used.
