Description
Four teacups, four glazes: brown, green, cream and black with drips.
Each cup has its own character: grey-green drips over beige clay, brown and white bands, plain cream crossed by a fine stroke, deep olive green over raw clay.
The slightly irregular shapes sit well in the hand. Without a handle, as Japanese tradition dictates, they are held with both hands. These natural variations evoke the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, simplicity and natural materials.
These cups come from Mino, in Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan’s great ceramic regions, where Mino ware (Mino-yaki) has been produced for centuries.
At 7.5 cm in diameter and 7 cm high, they hold green tea, herbal tea or sake.
