Saladiers japonais Yugen Lab en porcelaine bleu et blanc au bord festonné
Description

Two blue and white salad bowls with scalloped rims: one with waves, the other with lines.

The first carries seigaiha, waves in overlapping arcs; the second tokusa, fine vertical lines. Both have a wavy rim, outlined with a brown line, that opens like a flower’s corolla.

Seigaiha, literally “waves of the blue sea”, depicts the swell of the open sea in overlapping arcs. It takes its name from an ancient dance of the Japanese imperial court, and is associated with wishes for calm, peace and good fortune that keeps renewing itself, like the waves. Tokusa takes up the straight, segmented stems of horsetail, a plant often found in Japanese gardens.

At 18.5 cm in diameter and 6 cm high, these bowls suit salads, ramen, noodles or dishes to share.

They come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan’s main centres for everyday porcelain.
