Japanese Donburi Bowl with Lid, Large Blue Flower

A white donburi bowl with its lid, decorated with a large indigo blue flower.

On the white porcelain, a large flower with finely drawn indigo blue petals opens out on both the bowl and the lid. Its design recalls the chrysanthemum, kiku, emblem of the Japanese imperial house and a motif found throughout Japanese decorative arts.

The lid keeps food warm until it is served. In Japan, the donburi is the bowl for complete dishes: a bowl of rice topped with oyakodon, katsudon, tempura or vegetables, or a bowl of noodles.

At 15.5 cm in diameter, 13 cm high and with a capacity of 430 ml, it suits an individual meal.

The classic, bright contrast of white and blue goes with blue and white tableware as well as with a wooden table.
