A white porcelain ramen bowl, painted in indigo blue, in four designs.

Climbing plant: the inner rim is decorated with a frieze of flowers, tendrils and small dots, with a small painted motif in the centre. This light decoration leaves plenty of white and shows off the broth and toppings.

Assorted motifs: the inside features a wide frieze of traditional motifs, flowers, foliage and scrolls, with a flower in the centre. A rich, balanced decoration in the Japanese blue and white tradition.

Flowers and birds: flowering branches and birds unfold inside, beneath a frieze of small motifs. The theme of flowers and birds, kacho, is one of the great subjects of Japanese painting.

Ginkgo: the inside radiates fine lines, ringed with a frieze and decorated with motifs inspired by the ginkgo leaf. In Japan, the ginkgo, icho, is a tree revered for its longevity, whose golden foliage marks the autumn.

On the outside, the bowls are wrapped in a blue botanical scroll. Their shape is wide and flared, on a small foot. At about 19.5 cm in diameter and 7.4 cm high, these are true ramen bowls.

They come from the Toki-Tajimi region, Gifu Prefecture, home of Mino ceramics.
