Description
Five blue and white plates, each decorated with a different Japanese pattern.
Fishing net, fine radiating lines, chevrons, large flowers and floral scrolls: each plate carries its own blue decoration on a white background. The raised edges, outlined with a brown line, form a slight hollow.
The fishing net is amime, a Japanese pattern that expresses the wish for an abundant catch and, more broadly, for prosperity. The radiating lines recall tokusa, inspired by the straight stems of horsetail.
At approximately 20 × 22 cm and 4 cm high, they serve as starter or dessert plates, or as small deep plates for a dish with sauce.
They come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan’s main centres for everyday porcelain.
