Description
A large black salad bowl that opens onto an inside streaked with light grey, like a stone polished by water.
The outside is a deep, satiny black, crossed by fine horizontal ridges that catch the light as you turn the piece. Nothing else: the shape and the colour are enough.
Everything happens inside. Below a wide black band at the top, the bottom is covered with concentric light grey and white circles, laid down in irregular bands. They look like brushstrokes traced while the piece was turning: some are sharp, others fray and let the black show through.
The shape is wide and low, flared, resting on a small foot that barely lifts it. At 28.5 cm in diameter, it is made to sit at the centre of the table.
The circles never fall in quite the same place from one bowl to another, which gives each piece a slightly different texture.
It shows off bright colours: a crunchy vegetable salad, cold noodles, a poke or seasonal fruit stand out beautifully on this dark background. Made in Japan.
