Description
A flared mug covered with a multitude of small blue flowers.
On the white background, the flowers are densely scattered in indigo blue, in the tradition of floral patterns on Japanese tableware. This delicate decoration brings a touch of spring to breakfast.
Its base is left in unglazed brown clay: the mug seems to stand on a small plinth. A brown line highlights the rim, and the rounded handle gives a good grip.
The mug is shaped in a mould, then finished by hand; the decoration is applied with transfer paper. The position of the flowers may therefore vary slightly from one mug to another.
It comes from the Toki-Tajimi region, Gifu Prefecture, home of Mino ceramics.
For coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Made in Japan.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the base not glazed?
It is a style choice: the bare brown clay contrasts with the decoration and makes the mug look as if it stands on a plinth.
Is the decoration painted with a brush?
No. The mug is shaped in a mould and finished by hand, and the decoration is applied with transfer paper.
