Description
Five bowls in indigo blue, five patterns that answer each other without ever repeating.
On one, white flowers stand out against an almost midnight indigo background. Another carries interlocking circles, shippo, which form petals at each intersection. The third lines up geometric stars, the fourth a fine network of crosshatching, and the last a dense scattering of small diamonds and stars. The patterns cover the inside and outside, and a brown line rings each rim.
These designs draw on the repertoire of Japanese textile patterns, those found on kimonos and indigo-dyed fabrics. Side by side, they form a varied yet very harmonious set.
The bowls are round and fairly deep, on a small white foot. At 13.3 cm in diameter and 8 cm high, they sit between a rice bowl and a soup bowl.
A blue and white table without monotony, for every day or for guests. Made in Japan.

Frequently asked questions
Why a different pattern on each bowl?
That is the spirit of the set: one blue, but five designs, so everyone recognises their bowl and the table stays varied.
What is the shippo pattern?
Circles that overlap endlessly, forming small petals at each intersection. It is associated with harmony.
