Description
Five rice bowls, five ways of playing with indigo blue.
One is white with large blue dots, another blue with white circles ringed in blue; others carry small scattered circles, floral patterns or wide rings on a white background. The backgrounds alternate between deep blue and white, which makes the set lively.
These simple designs belong to the tradition of Japanese blue and white porcelain. In Japan, everyone often has their own rice bowl at home: with five designs, everyone recognises theirs.
The bowls are round and curved, on a small foot. At 11.7 cm in diameter and 6 cm high, they are classic rice bowl size.
They come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan's great centres of everyday porcelain.
For rice, miso soup or side dishes. Made in Japan.
