Description
Two very pale blue plates, crossed by fine branches of plum in bloom.
The background is an almost grey blue, lightly speckled, like a winter sky. On it, a few brown branches stretch from one edge to the other, dotted with small five-petalled white flowers. A brown rim rings each plate and echoes the colour of the branches.
The plum tree, ume in Japanese, is the first tree to bloom at the end of winter. It symbolises perseverance and the coming of spring.
Their shape is deep and flared, with a wide, slightly raised rim. At 26 cm in diameter, these are real dinner plates.
The line of the branches varies a little from one plate to another, like a freehand drawing.
For pasta, salads, curry or dishes with sauce. They go with the Plum blossom rice bowls of the same range. Made in Japan.

Frequently asked questions
Why plum rather than cherry blossom?
The plum tree blooms first, at the very end of winter. In Japan, it heralds spring and symbolises perseverance, whereas the cherry tree blooms later.
Are there matching bowls?
Yes, the light blue Plum blossom rice bowls share the same shade and the same flowering branches.
