Description
Two large ramen bowls covered in a blue weave, inside and out.
A fine blue grid draws a basketwork pattern, like interlaced strips of bamboo, over the whole surface of the bowl. A brown line outlines the rim and two fine blue circles mark the foot.
This decoration recalls ajiro, a Japanese pattern inspired by the woven bamboo or cypress panels used in traditional architecture for ceilings and fences.
At 19.7 cm in diameter and 10 cm high, these bowls suit ramen, udon, soba or large soups.
They come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan’s main centres for everyday porcelain. They complete the large bowls with the dotted diamond pattern from the same series.
