Japanese Salad Bowls, Midnight Blue with Plum Blossom – Set of 2

Two midnight blue salad bowls that reveal fine flowering branches as they empty.

The outside is a deep, softly nuanced midnight blue that gives the bowls an understated look. Inside, the glaze lightens in places and reveals fine dark branches bearing small white flowers. The decoration appears as the meal goes on.

In Japan, the plum tree, ume, is the first tree to blossom at the end of winter, sometimes still under snow, well before the cherry tree. Its flowering heralds the return of spring, and its blossom symbolises perseverance and renewal. It is one of the best-loved patterns in Japanese tableware.

At 20 cm in diameter and 7 cm high, they suit salads, vegetables, noodles, dishes in sauce or a fruit dessert. They serve as salad bowls in the middle of the table or as large individual bowls.

They complete the bowls, plates and small dishes of the shop’s plum blossom range, to build a complete set.
