Description
A matcha bowl with an irregular shape, ribbed with vertical relief, in red or white.
Its slightly wavy shape is marked with raised vertical ribs that catch the glaze and the light. The surface feels pleasant under the fingers.
Two colours are available: a deep brick red, or a speckled cream white where the ribs stand out in brown and olive green.
The chawan is the bowl used in Japan to prepare and drink matcha, a powdered green tea whisked in hot water with a bamboo whisk, the chasen, until a fine froth forms. At 10 cm in diameter and 7 cm high, this bowl leaves room for the whisk.
It was made in Tokoname, in Aichi Prefecture, one of Japan’s oldest ceramic regions. These natural variations evoke the spirit of wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic that finds beauty in imperfection, simplicity and natural materials.
