Large Japanese bowls, blue decorations – Set of 3

Three large bowls with generous decoration that seems to have been painted with a quick gesture.

The first is indigo blue outside; inside, on a blue background, large white circles each surround a darker blue centre. The second, also blue outside, opens onto a cream interior scattered with large blue and brown dots. The third is cream outside, decorated with blue scrolls, and its interior carries wide curling foliage and a few brown dots.

All three share a rim lined in brown and that thick, slightly irregular line that suggests a brushstroke. Japanese blue and white takes on a more rustic and warmer tone here.

Their shape is wide and flared, on a small foot: at 21.5 cm in diameter and 8 cm high, these are real serving bowls.

The circles, dots and scrolls vary slightly from bowl to bowl, which adds to their handcrafted feel.
