Description
Two blue and white salad bowls: one covered in asanoha stars, the other crossed by a brushstroke.
The first is covered inside with a network of blue six-pointed stars on a white background. The second, white, is marked on the outside with a broad blue stroke, like a brushstroke. A dark brown line edges both pieces.
Asanoha, the six-pointed “hemp leaf” star, is one of the oldest Japanese patterns. Because hemp grows straight and fast, it is associated with growth and good health.
At 20.5 cm in diameter and 5 cm high, they suit salads, pasta, noodles or dishes to share.
They come from Hasami, in Nagasaki Prefecture, one of Japan’s main centres for everyday porcelain. They go with the set of salad bowls with dotted checks from the same series.
