Japanese Rice Bowl, Whale and Waves

A rice bowl where a whale cuts through the waves all around the bowl.

A large dark whale emerges from blue waves with curling crests, drawn in fine white lines. The contrast between the dark mass of the animal and the lightness of the foam gives the decoration a lot of movement.

Inside, the decoration continues under the rim with a dark wave and a few dots like spray. The unglazed foot is sand-coloured.

At 14.5 cm in diameter and 6.6 cm high, it suits rice, miso soup, breakfast cereal or a small dish.

It completes the large soup bowl and the deep plate with the same whale pattern, for a matching set.
